How our service works

At Smoky Mountain Farewells, we provide a simple, respectful, and compassionate way to fulfill a loved one's final wishes through unattended cremation ash scattering in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Step 1 – Schedule the Service

Contacts us to arrange the scattering. We coordinate the details, answer any questions, and schedule a suitable date. (Weather permitting)

Step 2 – Secure Transfer of the Cremated Remains

Using the USPS cremations shipping box, ship the Priority Mail Express package to our dedicated secure post office box. The boxes are free and available at post offices or the link below. Shipping cost in not included with our service. The USPS is the only service that offers shipping of creamains.

Step 3 – A Respectful Mountain Farewell

On the scheduled day, our team travels to a carefully selected, legally appropriate location in the Great Smoky Mountains Natinal Park. The cremated remains are scattered with dignity, compassion, and respect in a peaceful natural setting. Every service is performed privately and reverently, honoring the life and memory of your loved one.

Step 4 – Memorial Documentation

Following the scattering, we provide a Certificate of Scattering documenting the date and GPS location of the memorial. Families may also choose optional (at no addional cost) photographs or a professionally recorded video of the service to preserve the moment.

Step 5 – Completion of the Service

If requested, the empty urn is returned to the family. Our goal is to make the entire process simple, seamless, and comforting while ensuring every farewell is carried out with the highest level of care and professionalism.
